Rufiji Basin Water Board Launches 50,000 Water-Friendly Tree Planting Initiative in Usangu

Mbeya. The Rufiji Basin Water Board, through the Nature-Based Solutions for the Usangu Basin (NBS–USANGU) Project, has officially launched a major environmental conservation campaign involving the planting of 50,000 water-friendly trees aimed at protecting and restoring water sources in the Usangu Basin. The launch event was held at Igomelo Primary School in Mbarali District Council, Mbeya Region, and brought together government officials, project implementers, teachers and pupils from 15 primary schools located in villages benefiting from the NBS–USANGU project. The NBS–USANGU project is funded by the Government of Japan through the World Bank and focuses on promoting nature-based solutions to address environmental degradation, water scarcity and climate change impacts in the Usangu Basin.
