MP JOSEPH MUNGAI APPEARS IN COURT TODAY

THE former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mufindi North, Mr. Joseph Mungai has been arraigned in the resident magistrate court of Iringa on Wednesday for corruption charges, it has been revealed.


Mr. Mungai in conjunction with Mr. Moses Masai and Mr. Fidel Cholela on or about 8th July 2010 at Ihalimab Ward within Mufindi District in Iringa Region first accused being a CCM candidate in the nomination process contesting for Mufindi North Constituency, second accused being his secretary and third being secretary for UVCCM-Mufindi did corruption.


The Prevention and Combating of Corruption (PCCB), Prosecutor Ms Prisca Mpeka before Resident Magistrate Ms Mary Senapee said the trio was charged with 15 counts of charges of they all denied them.


She said in the first count, contrary to PCCB Act No.11 of 2007 and National Election Act, No.6 of 2010, Mr. Mungai in conjunction with Mr. Masasi and Cholela on that material day and date did corruptly give Mr. Obadia Mtokoma who is a CCM Chairman for Vikula Village the sum of 10,000/-, as inducement so that he could be voted during the nomination election on 1st August, 2010.


Other counts including and in brackets are amount given to each individual as inducement, Mr. Konjeta Kiyeyeu (10,000/-), Mr. Aldo Lugusi (10,000/-), Mr. Ezekiel Mhewa (10,000/-), Mr.Tulaigwa Kisinda (10,000/-), Mr. Jiston Mhagama (10,000/-), Ms Maria Kihongosi (20,000/-), Mr. Lurent Mdalingwa (5,000/-) and Mr. Victory Kalinga (20,000/-).


Others are Mr. Francis Chonya (2,000/-), Mr. Alfred Kisinga (2,000/-), Mr. Issac Tweve (2,000/-), Mr. Raphael Lutumo (10,000/-), Mr. Andrew Mkiwa (20,000/-) and Mr. Sosten Kigahe (10,000/-).


However, the criminal case No. 5 of 2010 will come for mention on 25th August, 2010.


Meanwhile, the former TFF secretary, Mr.Fredrick Mwakalebela was supposed to appeal in the District Magistrate Court today but unfortunately he could not appeal after getting permission.


Mr. Mwakalebela on that material day and date in June 2010 at Mkoga Village within Iringa Municipal in Iringa Region being a CCM candidate in the nomination process did corruptly give Mr. Hamis Luhanga (Chairman for Mkoga Village) an advantage of 100,000/- to be distributed to 30 CCM member whp gathered in the premises of Luhanga for the aim attending nomination campaign, an inducement so that they could vote for him during the primaries to be held on 1st August, 2010.
