A WOMAN GIVES BIRTH TO TRIPLETS

A WOMAN aged 30 years have given birth to triplets at Iringa Regional Hospital but she need help from the well-wishers to give her support like food and clothes for the her three babies.


Sara Mchena of Isimani Village, Mangawe Ward in Isimani Division in Iringa District, Iringa Region has given birth to three babies, one baby girl and two baby boys on Saturday after midnight through a normal delivery, it has been confirmed.


According the nursing officer was in charge of the postnatal ward number three (3) at the regional hospital, Mary Sapali, Mchena gave birth to triplets but unfortunately they all underweight, that is, one with 2,200grams and the other two with 2,300grams respectively.
The nursing officer explained to reporters on Tuesday that the woman brought to the hospital as referral since past two weeks from the health center in Isimani.
She said that the woman is married to Caspian Mfikwa who is poor peasant at Isimani village who has never turn-up to come and see how his wife is doing.


“Sara Mchena is badly in need of support both materially and financially so that she can feed and cloth the three babies since she is bad health, that is she cannot properly breastfeed them hence to be given other milk,” she told the reporters.


Mchena has now a total of six children and she asked the nurses to help her stop giving birth forever because she has enough children now.


“The babies need breastfeeding for continuous six months after birth but their mother has little milk because she is in poor health, food is problem to get……. the babies don’t have clothes as you can see they just wrapped in light pieces of khanga materials considering Iringa is cold,” Sapali said.


In another development, the hospital is facing a crisis of beds in the postnatal ward of which mothers are forced to sleep more two at one bed.


According to Dr. Deogratias Manyama, a medical officer in charge at the regional hospital, the ward had 23 beds only but there more than 50 mothers who every day for service.
The crisis of beds is same in other wards as while, there are a lot of patients who are admitted compared to the number beds in wards.
