MBARALI District Council in Mbeya Region during the year 2010-2014 of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program (RWSSP) is intended to carry out rural water supply and sanitation activities in 16 villages at the total cost of 8.316,875,000/- funded the World Bank (WB) it has been discovered.
Speaking yesterday during an interview, District Water Engineer, Eng. Moses Msuya said the district was intended to carry out the following activities, drilling of four (4)boreholes to be fitted with submersible pump at Ubaruku, yala, Simike and Udindilwa.
The construction/rehabilitation of 12 gravity piped water supply schemes at Chimala, Igurusi, Ukwavile, Mkunywa, Luhanga and Mpolo and one gravity scheme for Manienga, Itipingi, Kangaga, Matemela, Ipwani, and Mkandani villages.
He noted that there is only 60 percent of all the resident of Mbarali District Council who are access to clean drinking water so far.
Eng. Msuya further said that the district is going to construct three (3) demonstration latrines in some of the project villages and also it going to construct demonstration rain water harvesting facilities in some of project villages.
According to district water engineer, the total program base cost for water facilities in which the communities shall contribute 2.5 percent of the investment cost of water supply is 6.629,500,000/-.
The problem of water in the district is large but RWSSP program will at least help to reduce which has targeted a total of 72,814 population.
However, he said that district is intended to construct demonstration latrines at public places like schools and clinics/dispensaries, market and village government offices in each of the targeted villages on demand of the communities and also one hand washing facilities at each latrine hence improvement of sanitation.
In another development, Mbarali District Council has received 109 primary teachers to be deployed in the various schools to reduce the lack of teachers the district is facing.
Although the district faces an acute shortage of teachers in both primary and secondary school, it will help to at least make a little bit easily to reduce the problem.
According to Mbarali District Officer (DEO) for primary schools, Wilson Mabuba, the government has given the district a total of 109 GradeIII A and already they have been deployed to various schools although they are not enough.
He said the district need a total 1,190 teachers but there are only 937, which means there is a shortage of 253 before the new teachers came.
“Now that the government has given us 109 this year, we will have a total of 1,046 teachers and the shortage will reduce 144 with teacher to students ratio reduced to 1:51 from 1:61” he said.

However, Mbarali has a total of 103 primary schools, a total of 53,552 pupils (26,534 boys and 27,018 girls), 674 classrooms and 12,974 desks.
