EASTER SUNDAY GIFT

Elizabeth Soko (19) and Miriam Emmanuel (17) are the young mothers from Mgazini Village in Songea District; Ruvuma Region who was one of the mothers delivered their babies on Easter Sunday Eve at Peramiho Mission Hospital.


According to the assistance nursing officer in charge in the labour ward, Dickson Komba told the reporter on Sunday that 10 babies were born during Easter including five females and five males.


He said that two out of 10 mothers delivered through medical operation but their healths were said to be doing fine together their babies, but were still getting medical attention.


However, it was discovered that three quarters of mothers who gave birth during the Easter  Eve werw younger mother with smaller ages (umri) which means a lot girls get married as early as possible instead of continuing with education but become early mothers. In short early marriages in the village is rempant may eb due to hardship and so on.


They (girls) rush into child marriages may be because they indulge in early sexual relations at their tender ages or maybe because of situation of the lives in villages in difficulty. Their parents or guardians were poor, that they can not afford to pay for education expenses respectively.


For instance, those two young girls above who have delivered at Peramiho Mission recently, they were supposed to be in school but now they are become mothers, and maybe the ones who had given them pregnancy are nowhere to seen, and load of taking care of babies will be left to their mothers of girls, because they might not be experienced enough to look after their young ones beacuse of their ages.


The government should keep an eye on the so called ‘Fatakis’ lack of a better term in the villages and elsewhere to check for people who are abusing young girls of school going age sexually but  take them to court to answer charges.


The Fatakis are people robbing of bright futures of our small girls, who enticing them sexually because of their financial muscles and at end of the day they are left without responsibilities, hence increasing the number streets children who end up also assist for help on streets.


But, how about the issue of HIV/AIDS infections?
