RPC: TAXI IS ONLY SAFE TRANSPORT IN IRINGA









TAXIS provide passenger transportation services very safely in Iringa than any other means of transport, said Iringa Regional Police Commander.


The statement issued recently by Police Commander of Iringa Region, Ramadan a Mungi on the peak of the celebrations of the road safety week in Iringa shows no one (taxi) even cause accidents and deaths from January to December this year.

RPC mentioned vehicles  causing deaths in Iringa that are private cars, and many others that goes to Dar es Salaam, Iringa, Mbeya on the highway.

He said the trucks are second place by accident causing death in the region, followed by motorcycles (boda boda) and buses and the minor (bus) that provide passenger transportation services in various areas in Iringa.

Mungi stated a goal of Iringa region for this year was to reduce accidents by 20 percent, an increase of 2 percent, from 18 percent last year.

He said accidents happening in various areas cannot be completed in one operation but to improve existing policies and strategies to involve different ministries dealing with accidents caused by vehicles.

He named those ministries that include the ministries of home affairs, ministry of works, transport, finance, energy and mining, trade and industry, regional administration (Tamisemi), health, law and constitution and labor and employment.

In the beginning, Regional Traffic of Iringa (RTO), Leopold Fungu said traffic accidents have been caused by decay of vehicles, human error and non compliance with the rules and principles of road safety.

"Many accidents occur because of the speed, the negligence of road use, the problem of not knowing the rules and traffic laws, drunkenness and tall grass along the road," he said.

In response to the accident  in here,  RTO said placement of bumps and road signs is being undertaken in parallel with the arrest of cars by using precisely the motion, inspect passenger vehicles and cargo, testing drunken drivers and remove the bad cars off the road.

Referring to data traffic offenses in the past eight months, last year and this year, he said during last year there were 95 accidents this year is no accident 116 so far.

About accident deaths, said during last year were 57 this year have occurred 92, while injuries accidents decrease from 28 to 24 this year.

He said while the number of people who died falling from 86 to 41 people, wounded have been reduced from 59 to 58 before the closing year.

About common mistakes RTO said 18,078 different offenses happened last year, this year has increased to 25,009.

In the event that his official guest was Mayor of the Municipality of Iringa,  Amani Mwamwindi,  RTO thanked the Chairman of the Committee on Road Safety Iringa Region, Salim Asas for donating two cars,  alcohol detecting device  and 30 speed  devices for detecting speeding drivers  to the police force.
