PETROL AND DIESEL PRICES UP IN IRINGA


THE petroleum products prices in Iringa Town are up especially petrol and diesel with an exceptional of kerosene whose price has decreased by 31/-, the Guardian can disclose.

The prices of petrol and diesel in Iringa Town have gone up by 111/- and 23/- respectively.

According to the survey conducted by the Guardian today/yesterday to some selected petrol stations in the municipality, a litre of petrol was selling at 1,930/- up from 1,819/- and diesel one litre was selling at 1,759/- from 1,736/- respectively.

But only kerosene pump price was sold at 1,688/- from 1,719/- which will give relieve to most consumers using the product for lighting and cooking for both rural and urban dwellers.

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) published both cap retail and wholesale prices of petroleum products prices, applicable in Tanzania Mainland in the month of May 2015. 

EWURA directed all petrol stations to publish petroleum product prices on clearly visible boards of which almost everyone in Iringa Town have done.

“The price boards should be clearly visible and should clearly show prices charged, discounts offered as well as any trade incentives or promotions on offer,” reads part of EWURA statement.

The Guardian reporter visited some petrol stations in Iringa municipality including Mshindo Gapco Petrol Station, Kitanzini Gapco Service Station, Hope Service Station, Iringa Service Station and TFA Filling Station which have prices published on boards located in clearly visible places in front of petrol stations.

Maneno Atilio Balama a pump attendant at Mshindo Gapco Filling Station said his customers asked him a lot of questions about the change in price of petrol and diesel especially those in coming from rural areas.

He said that customers have now come to understood that their filling station was not the one hiking the prices but the government through Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA).

Salim Saleh a supervisor at the same filling station also said he has received some complaints from his customers about the new prices but he has managed to educate them about the all thing.

He said that now his customers have come to understood that it was not them who climb the prices but the government through EWURA.

He added that EWURA publishes cap prices for both retail and wholesale for every Wednesday of the first week of every month.

However, the retail and wholesale prices for all products have changed, compared with prices that were applicable in April 2015. 

For May 2015, retail prices of Petrol and Diesel have increased by TZS 111/litre or 6.32% and TZS 23/litre or 1.37% respectively, while Kerosene retail price has decreased by TZS 31/litre, equivalent to 1.86%.
