A total of 526,006 people in Iringa to particpate in the General Election

In just a few days remaining before the general election on October 25th this year, Iringa Region Elections Coordinator, Wilfred Myuyu said he has began to receive election materials.

The Coordinator said this during a public debate on peace during and after the general elections to be held in October this year held at Open University (OUT) Hall in Iringa municipality yesterday.

The debate was organized by the NGO Civil Society Organization Iringa (ICISO-Umbrella) in collaboration with the 'The Foundation for Civil Society (FCS).'

The debate was officially opened by the acting Iringa Regional Commissioner (RC), Selemani Mzee who is also the Kilolo District on behalf of the RC Amina Masenza.

Myuyu, who is also Assistant Administrative Secretary (Local Government Authority), said that some of the material received includes 5,995 ballot boxes, various lamps and a permanent register of voters.

He said that the election is a process and so far Iringa Region has already begun preparations and will have a total of 1,641 polling centers, adding that each facility will have no more than 500 voters.

Wilfred Myuyu said that the region has registered a total of 526,006 voters and it has surpassed the target of expectations of 521,491 which is equivalent to 100.8 percent.

"The centers that was used to register voters (BVR) will be polling stations which will have the electorate at least 500 and if that station had voters 1,000, then the center may be to have two stations which will be 'A' and 'B' , "said Myuyu.

He said that all polling stations will be opened starting at 07:00 am and closed at 16:00 pm which will be turned into counting stations.

In addition, he said that the list of names of voters will be fixed eight days before the general election day, to give people an opportunity to check their names in the centers.

He said that the rules of the general election of 2015 required political parties to educate its members the manner on how to vote and ask voters to go home immediately after casting votes because they are not allowed to wait for the results to avoid congestion.

Iringa Region started the enrollment of voters in the permanent register of voters on April 29 and May 29 this year.

"By law, the results of councilors will be announced by a assistant returning officers at the ward level, parliamentary will be announced executive directors and for the presidency is a commission," he said.

Recently, the Chairman of the National Commission on Election (NEC), Damian Lubuva ordered coordinators and supervisors of elections with police commanders to do fair during the General Election in order keep peace and tranquility in the country, failure to do that will throw countries in trouble. 

NEC said that in a meeting attended by supervisors of elections of all district councils in the country and the regional police commanders, which was led by its chief, IGP Ernest Mangu, with his commissioners-Diwani Athumani (Investigation of Criminal Procedure), Paul Chagonja (Operation), Mussa Ali Mussa (community policing) and Suleiman Kova (Dar es Salaam Special Zone) with some senior officers.
