MUFINDI: Senior Nurse at Ugesa Dispensary in Ihalimba Ward, Mufindi district, Iringa region Theresia Chaula (enrolled nurse) said many women have abortions in the backyards leading to the death for girls and women in marriage.
She said that the problem of abortion in the village of Ugesa is great and they come to hospital with poor health after abortion in street.
"Many women who arrive at the hospital after aborting pregnancy…," said Chaula.
Chaula said yesterday while speaking to The Guardian that there are some women try to have an abortion by inserting sharp objects or objects contaminated with the womb or womb burst.
She said that one of the great harm which comes upon a woman who abortions are hemorrhage and burst womb.
She said that these actions are dangerous and never any woman not to do so, that can cause a significant effect womb injury, including excessive bleeding and so bring death.
She said there are women who give girls and women abortion by inserting sharp objects or objects which contaminate womb.
She said that the village is a facing problem with unsafe sexual activities due to local alcohol kind of Ulanzi.
"In this season of alcohol people have been involved in unprotected sex, unwanted pregnancies and abortions ...," said Chaula.
She said that she intends to convene a village meeting to identify people who involved aborting (ngariba) pregnant girls and women so promptly.
Meanwhile, the senior nurse said the clinic has shortage of health workers, where she added that she is alone and cannot with multitude of patients who come for treatment.
She said that health services continue to exist but it is effectively requires a nurse, a medical attendant and a clinical assistant.
Ugesa Village is one of the villages where the ‘Village land conflict dialogue’ project was done over land disputes implemented by Tanzania Grassroots Oriented Development (TAGRODE) a non-governmental organization based in Iringa in collaboration with Participatory Ecological Land Use Management Tanzania (PELUM Tanzania).
The organization runs the debates in villages Ikuka, Mbigili, Mawala, Mawambala and Masalali for the District of Kilolo.
Other villages are Usokami, Ugesa, Makungu, Magunguli and Isaula Mufindi District through Citizens Engaging in Government Oversight in Agriculture (CEGO-Agriculture) involving rural communities in terms of the accountability of village land.
According to the Coordinator of Tanzania Grassroots Oriented Development (TAGRODE) Dickson Mwalubandu, the village land conflict dialogue held in the districts of Kilolo and Mufindi is focusing on how to make things in order to reduce the complaints of land disputes.
"In order to ensure citizens are grappling with challenges, his organization operates on dialogue and strengthen village land committees and village land councils so that they solve conflicts on their territories," said Mwalubandu.
Mwalubandu said the dialogue aims to empower the citizens of the project districts (Kilolo and Mufindi), so that they can understand land laws, land rights for women and vulnerable groups as well as the resolution of land disputes.
He said that the funding from USAID, through Participatory Ecological Land Use Management Tanzania (PELUM Tanzania), TAGRODE runs the debates in villages of Ikuka, Mbigili, Mawala, Mawambala na Masalali in kilolo.
Others are Usokami, Ugesa, Makungu, Magunguli and Isaula in Mufindi District through Citizens Engaging in Government Oversight in Agriculture (CEGO-Agriculture) project involving rural communities in terms of the accountability of village land.
