ENTREPRENEURS URGES TO JOIN HEALTH INSURANCE FUND

Entrepreneurs’ have been challenged to create groups so that they can join the National Fund for Health Insurance (NHIF) and eventually and access to medical care when they go to hospital to be treated.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday Iringa Region Acting Manager for National Health Insurance Fund, Lucas Gama said that people who are not civil servants are allowed to join a health insurance fund through entrepreneurial groups.

He said that entrepreneurs from various groups in Iringa have been encouraged to join the NHIF package to simplify treatment while staying in their usual activities, adding that entrepreneurs who join the scheme will pay Shs 76,800/- each.

Gama said that the NHIF is a fund of society that use the concept of 'social solidity’ meaning that all members are equal before the community, that is, a contributor who contributed little and big money all the same.

He said that the NHIF responsibilities include ensuring health facilities provide adequate health care services to all and the necessary requirements to provide the best service to its members.

"I really want to say that the disease do not knock on a person, it is well to prepared for the future by joining the health insurance fund ...," said Gama.

He said that the health insurance fund has been organized to ensure the members receive adequate treatment by using their cards that covers all medical costs.

Referring to the shortage of drugs in health centers and hospitals through the fund, he said that the problem of the lack of medicine in hospital will be finished, if many households’ will join the NHIF, as the government will put his hand in order to ensure health care is improved.

''We encourage and provide education to the community about the importance of joining the health insurance fund in churches, mosques, motorcyclist groups (bodaboda), religious leaders and other communities, '' said Gama.
