Government Involves The Community In The Ecological Restoration Of The GRRC

The government has decided to involve the community in the ecological restoration of the Great Ruaha River Catchment (GRRC) to continue to benefit people and livestock.

The statement was made by a member of the task force of restoration ecology in the catchment of the Great Ruaha river, Abbas Kandoro as he was explaining the purpose of the task force set up by Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan to members of the community and water users association Lyandembela small river valley in the small town of Ifunda in Iringa district, Iringa Region yesterday.

Kandoro said the government has seen to engage citizens in the restoration of ecology in the great Ruaha river valley.

“This participation aims to get your opinion to determine measures to restore the situation in the Ruaha river to the benefit of all those who benefit from this river, adding that the location of a small river valley of Lyandembela has a significant contribution to the availability of water flowing into the river Ruaha,” He said.

He said another reason is cultivating in the wetlands and water pump use for irrigation in areas that are not permitted by the law.
