A MIDWIFE VOLUNTEER DONATES VARIOUS MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO FRELIMO HOSPITAL

A midwife volunteer from Germany has provided various medical supplies at the existing Frelimo district hospital in Iringa Municipality, Iringa Region, where she once worked as volunteer.

Cornelia Block in collaboration with the African Institute for Local and International internship (AFLII) has provided various medical facilities for the mother and child health unit, as a launch of a medical treatment program in the hospital.

She said that in the first phase of donating medical treatment program she provided medical supplies worth five million shillings (5m / -) in partnership with the German Rainbow Garden Village (RGV) organization.

Block said that the program will also conduct specialized training for midwives on modern methods of providing mother and baby health care.

She said that the efforts to contribute to medical equipment are ongoing, including funding from its partners to get more medical equipment including ultrasound.

Frelimo Hospital is experiencing various challenges such as testing and diagnostics, patients ward, children's ward, ward for patients with infectious diseases, laundry facilities and medical equipment.

According to Country Coordinator AFLII Foundation, Shedrack Mukuta, the institution is organizing and conducting the practice of welcoming experts and volunteers internally and overseas by looking for opportunities for volunteers in the government and private sector health centers.

He said that the main purpose of coordinating these volunteers is to support government and various development stakeholders in improving social services such as health, environmental, education, tourism and economic investment.

Mukuta explained that the institution in collaboration with various development stakeholders in Iringa Region has been able to receive and pursue free training opportunities for 47 professionals and 47 students at different government and private centers and clinics.

He said the institution was registered in 2016 and started working in 2017 in the regions of Mtwara, Zanzibar, Arusha and Iringa.

He said AFLII Foundation in Iringa region works with stakeholders such as Iringa Municipal Council, Iringa University (UoI), Lutheran Church of Iringa Diocese, Anglican Church Diocese of Ruaha, Kibebe Farm and government departments and private.

Despite the efforts and successes of the institution, they still face a number of challenges including changes in immigration procedures and guidelines that are particularly disastrous when experts enter the country.

On their part, Member of Parliament through special seat for Iringa Ritta Kabati (CCM) who was an official guest at the handing over ceremony held at the hospital and Iringa Regional Commissioner Amina Masenza thanked the volunteer Cornelia Block for support.

Together they urged other development stakeholders to emerge in solving challenges at the Frelimo hospital together with other hospitals in Iringa.

They said the hospital was experiencing the challenges of infrastructure and medical facilities that have been blocking the activities of providing better services to the people.

Frelimo Hospital requires medical equipment such as biochemistry machine, hematology machine viral load analyzer, ultrasound machine and X-ray machine according to Medical In charge Dr Pilila Zambi.
