TUJIKWAMUE PARENTS GROUP DONATES FOOD AID TO MLOWA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Tujikwamue Village Parents Group of Mlowa Ward in Iringa District Council, Iringa region has provided food aid worth over six thousand shillings (600,000/-) to Secondary Mlowa Secondary School in supporting school meals program. 

According to the Chairman of the Group Charles Mkusa, a daily school meal can mean not only better nutrition and health, but also increased access to and achievement in education. 

Mkusa said that their group is involved in cultivation of fruits and vegetables after receiving financial support one million shillings from Campaign Female Education (CAMFED) a nongovernmental international organization they started the business of fruits and vegetables. 

The parents group has donated seven bags of maize and four bags of rice to Mlowa Secondary School in supporting school feeding program and has a reward they have got from their farming activities. 

Mkusa said that after recognizing the importance of education they have found it helpful to contribute food stuff to the school in order to keep the children in school, hence reduction in truancy or absenteeism. 

He elaborated that many children do not go school especially those coming from poor families, so by supporting meals in schools will increase attendance and it is also a strong incentive to consistently send children to school. 

In addition, Mlowa Secondary School Headmaster Frank Mahai thanked the group for assisting in addressing the challenges of food in the school in order to increase academic performance. 

Nicolus Pinga's Mlowa Ward Education Officer said that it is good that the students recognized the importance of the organization as it has reached over 900 students in Iringa District Rural. 

He has asked pupils who are assisted by the organization to show sincere interest including efforts in their studies. 

Pinga adds that the presence of many organizations in the country help the vulnerable children gain their basic rights including education. 

On his part, Mlowa Village Chairman Yustino Chalamila has congratulated the group since they have been offering different aid in the village as last month they bought a gas stove for Nyamahana Village dispensary and urged other groups to borrow a leaf of volunteerism. 

However, CAMFED in recognizing the importance of education has enabled various groups of parents in the Iringa region to be able to help children with different needs including feeding in the country to increase their level of education in their studies.
