The funeral service was held at
the Church of the Pilgrimage of the Virgin Mary – Pugu in Dar es Salaam and was
attended by hundreds of faithful, as well as national and religious leaders.
The ceremony was led by the
Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Emmanuel Nchimbi, who
conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government and urged Tanzanians to honour
Cardinal Pengo’s significant contribution to promoting moral values, peace and
national unity.
Other government officials,
representatives of various institutions and leaders from different religious
denominations also attended the service, describing the late Cardinal as a
courageous and wise leader who served both the Church and the nation with integrity.
The funeral service was led by Archbishop Ruwaichi Taddeus, who presided over the requiem mass and paid tribute to the late Polycarp Kardinali Pengo for his dedicated service to the Church and the nation.
